Why firewood storage is as important as vaccination

Even the best wood splitter does not help if the log after vaccination moisturize. Proper storage reduces drying time, prevents mold and preserves energy value. If you are still choosing a machine or tonnage for grafting, fly over first Guide: types, power, drivesFor other tips, check out our blog page.

Basic rule: raised, ventilated, protected

Fold the firewood raised from the ground (pallets or slats) so that air circulates below and that moisture from the soil does not pass into the logs. Place the stack on a drafty place, ideally with a slight wind and sun. Cover only the top, the sides should breathe - full shelter retains moisture. When setting up, leave narrow ventilation ducts between the poles of logs and do not press the stack against the wall of the house.

The size of the logs that dry faster

A uniform cross-section shortens drying and simplifies stacking. After vaccination with wood splitter (vertical/horizontal wood splitters) adjust the size length of the stove/fireplace (eg 25, 33 or 50 cm). In the case of knotted oak or hornbeam, you prefer smaller pieces. If you are interested in the grafting technique itself (grafting axis, fiber direction), read What is firewood grafting?

Where to place the stack (yard, shed, canopy)

An airy, partly sunny place, protected from direct precipitation, is ideal. Canopy or open woodshed tey work better than a closed garage. If you stack logs against a fence or wall, leave at least 10-15 cm air clearance. For larger quantities, consider palletizing or big-bagih - transport and movements are faster, less “bulk” moisture on the ground.

Common mistakes that wet firewood

  • Pollen on the ground: always lift on pallets/slats.
  • Closed pages: cover only the top, the sides should be open.
  • Airless corner: provide drafts; move the stack away from the wall.
  • Too thick hair:d vide by wood splitter to smaller sections.
  • Irregular Spacing: leave small air ducts between the pillars.
